Pushing Buttons: Autumn's gaming gems
Games follow a seasonal rhythm, and perhaps because I have spent my career writing about them (take that, school careers advisor!), Absolutely nothing happens in winter, ever. Spring is often when the most interesting games appear – the slightly offbeat big releases or ambitious indie games that want to make a splash after the Christmas rush. In summer, E3 and Gamescom and all of the other showcases look ahead to the future. Autumn is truly the season of games, when the Fifas and Call of Dutys and Assassin's Creeds come out, and everything else either competes with them for attention, or scrambles to get away. The world's biggest games convention, Gamescom, marks the shift between summer and autumn.

Justin Roiland is a totally chill, normal guy with a new video game
Justin Roiland absentmindedly twirls the faces of the Rubik's Cube in his hands as we finish setting up the camera equipment. I just got the Oculus Go so I'm like messing around with bunch of stuff on [that]," he mentions. I have too many games right now that I'm sort of bouncing around, you know?" We're seated in a plushly carpeted meeting room at Sony's E3 booth, here to discuss Trover Saves the Universe, an upcoming VR title from Roiland's Squanch Games. "I absolutely love VR," he explains. "I keep thinking about what other kinds of VR experiences that I wish existed now."
How Science Makes "Rick and Morty" Great - Facts So Romantic
The season finale of "Rick and Morty," the Internet Movie Database's fourth most-popular TV show of all-time, runs tonight. What started as a graphic parody of Back to the Future (minus the headache of time travel) is now a critically acclaimed series with a devoted fan base. It follows a prototypical mad scientist, Rick, and his grandson, Morty, on adventures in alternate universes. David Sims, of The AV Club, summed up the show's premise as "essentially--what if Doc Brown was a demented drunk? And what if Marty McFly was a lonely kid who got dragged around with him on terrifying and strange adventures through space and time?"

Find 'Rick and Morty' rants with a quote search engine
Rick and Morty is chock-full of quotable moments, so it would only make sense that someone would eventually find a way search every single word, wouldn't it? The creators of the Simpsons and Futurama search tools (Paul Kehrer, Sean Schulte and Allie Young) have trotted out Master of All Science, a web engine that lets you find any Rick and Morty line and create a meme or animated GIF to match. If you want to share the existential despair of a butter robot or understand why the entire series revolves around Mulan, you just have to punch in the right keywords. As before, the team's system revolves around tying closed caption text to hundreds of thousands of frames plucked from the show. In a sense, the Rick and Morty engine is the culmination of the developers' work so far: it's proof that their technology can search virtually any show where it was originally very Simpsons-specific.
The Physics of Rick and Morty
For science fiction, the multiverse is a gold mine of compelling story ideas. But how could we prove or disprove it? Some physicists like Kleban believe we could detect evidence of the multiverse through something called bubble collisions. If the edges of two universes crashed into each other in the distant past, a signature imprint would be left behind in the sky. The hunt for bubble collisions continues, although Kleban himself has acknowledged finding one would be a long shot. "If convincing evidence of the multiverse is found, it would be one of the biggest discoveries in human history akin to the Copernican revolution," he said.
'Rick and Morty' Is Actually Righteous Science Fiction
Even after they set the bar really high, where they've done these amazing things, they still manage to do it." Geek's Guide to the Galaxy host David Barr Kirtley agrees that episodes like "Total Rickall," about aliens who pretend to be old friends by implanting false memories of themselves, are excellent examples of science fiction. "Even if you took all of the humor out of it, and told it just as a straight, serious science fiction story, it's a good enough story on its own to get published in a science fiction magazine," he says. Parallel worlds are a familiar idea in science fiction, but Rick and Morty pushes the concept almost to the breaking point, with dozens of versions of its main characters scheming against each other. Author Matt London loves the show, but acknowledges that the story is at constant risk of spiraling out of control. "I can understand why it took them years to write Season 3," he says, "because once you open this box it's very hard to get it closed again." Such mind-bending antics aren't for everyone, and Rick and Morty also has a streak of wild misanthropy that will alienate some viewers. TV critic Carli Velocci gives the show a strong recommendation, but warns that it should be approached with caution. "It's definitely not a show for the faint-hearted," she says. "There's so much gore and violence.

WATCH: New 'Rick And Morty: Virtual Rick-ality' Trailer Is Here
Everyone's favorite animated science fiction show is taking on a whole new medium. Earlier this month, International Business Times reported that "Rick And Morty: Virtual Rick-ality," a VR game based on the popular "Adult Swim" animated series by the same name, would release for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive Thursday. Having released only a teaser for the game at the time, fans were eager to know more about the highly anticipated game. Adult Swim Games gave potential players a closer look at the game Friday when it dropped a minute-long plug for "Virtual Rick-ality." At first adopting the format of a traditional infomercials scheme, the video then pans out for a meta-critique at the game by the actual Rick Sánchez and Morty Smith, who are watching a commercial for the very game they're starring in.
